WHAT IS A HUIPIL?

October 11, 2016

Huipils are at the core of all of the rich and colorful designs in our collection. But they had a full life before being incorporated into your bag. As a traditional garment, the huipil is worn by indigenous women from Mexico and throughout Central America. Every garment is uniquely decorated with a variety of designs and symbols, each with its own sacred meaning. These designs can also be representative of the region that someone is from. Each is an intricate labor of love, as one huipil can sometimes take up to six months to finish. When you carry one of these items, you are truly carrying an one-of-a-kind, masterpiece.
